The Enterprise Doctor Business Show

Vicky White & David Horne guest on The Business Show 13th May 2021

Mark Harris / Vicky White / David Horne Season 4 Episode 31

The Business Show which was broadcast live on Marlow FM 97.5 on 13th May 2021 is now available here.

My guests on this show were Vicky White and David Horne.  You can connect with them via https://www.linkedin.com/in/vickyannewhite/ and https://www.linkedin.com/in/davidkehorne/ respectively.

The cracking live performance of “It’s a Sin” performed by Elton John and Years & Years at the Brits a couple of days before the show was the first track I played – if you watch it at https://youtu.be/Hk4eMIswunQ you can decide whether I was right about the visual similarities with the acclaimed “I’m Still Standing” video.

I talk first to Vicky White of Vicky White Communications, and after the compulsory chat about the weather (and the fun of running in the rain) we talk about her business’s great start to the year, which is partly down to the number of her clients moving from in store sales to online sales, with all the marketing requirements that creates.

David Horne of Kehorne then talks about all manner of digital things, which is very much where Kehorne are at.  With a strong presence in the hospitality sector, things are now looking much better than they were, with many new websites being built for that sector, and those websites being much more functional.

Joy Division’s “She’s Lost Control” was David’s choice of music for us - you can listen to it at https://youtu.be/7PtvIr2oiaE with the lead singer of course being the late great Ian Curtis – we know that now!

We then turn to David’s chosen story for us to discuss, which you can read at https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/business-57057782 - can we really make a Zoom Free Friday work?

Vicky’s music choice was “Lovely Day” by Bill Withers.  This was recorded during Mental Health Awareness Week, which is relevant to much of the work that Vicky does in that sector, and Vicky loves the uplifting message of the song.  You can listen to it at https://youtu.be/bEeaS6fuUoA - don’t try that long note!

And Vicky’s choice of story for discussion can be found at https://www.businessleader.co.uk/2020-named-year-of-the-start-up-as-a-record-770000-uk-businesses-created/118781/ and that’s a 30% increase on 2019.  But how many will survive, and at what cost to their competitors?

Our final conversation was sparked by the story I found at https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/business-56915767 - bringing a whole new meaning to democracy and transparency in the business world.  But is it a good idea?

I close the show with Suzi Quatro’s “Daytona Demon”, which my phone chose for me! You can hear it at https://youtu.be/Mwos1Dxc_iI

Vicky’s website is at https://whitecommunications.co.uk/ while David’s is at https://kehorne.co.uk/ .
